LONG BEACH, CA, May 10 – The 10th Annual National Indie Excellence® Awards recognized Pomegranates and Saffron: A Culinary Journey to Azerbaijan by Feride Buyuran in the category of International Cookbooks as a winner in this year’s competition.

This prestigious National award is open to all English language books in print from small, medium, university, self and independent publishers. Established in 2007, the NIEA competition is judged by independent experts from all aspects of the indie book industry, including publishers, writers, editors, book cover designers and professional copywriters. Winners and finalists are determined based on ‘overall excellence of presentation in addition to the writing.’

Pomegranates and Saffron: A Culinary Journey to Azerbaijan (AZ Cookbook, September 30, 2015, ISBN: 978-0-9961731-2-4, $42) is the first comprehensive English language cookbook on Azerbaijani cuisine published in the U.S. In the 336-page cookbook, readers can explore 200 tempting recipes for appetizers and salads, soups and stews, pasta, meat, vegetable and egg dishes, breads, saffron rice pilafs, aromatic drinks, and desserts, all adapted for preparation in a Western kitchen. The book is comprised primarily of never-before-published recipes, along with some favorites from the author’s blog, azcookbook.com. Interspersed throughout the text are fascinating glimpses of local culture and traditional food-related proverbs that will make the reader’s adventure even more memorable.

This is the 4th award for Pomegranates and Saffron, which recently won Gourmand World Cookbook Award (Best Eastern European Cookbook in U.S.), Gourmand Best in the World Award (Jury’s Choice), and Living Now Award – Silver Medal in the category of Ethnic Cookbooks.
